In this week’s video, we show you an effective and safe stretch for your hamstrings and calves. This pose can also help reduce back pain by emphasizing a flat low back posture. *This is a great one to keep in your back pocket, as it requires only a short amount of time to really feel the effects of the stretch.
Pro-Tip: If you find yourself without a strap for this stretch, you can substitute with a towel (think medium sized, not beach towel!).
Step-by-Step Guide
- Lie comfortably on your back, and draw the right knee into your chest. Place the strap over the sole of the right foot.
- Extend the right leg up to the ceiling (keeping a soft bend to the knee) and create a comfortable stretch in your hamstring. To add more intensity, you can slowly begin to straighten the leg.
- Stay for a few breaths, then open your right leg out to the right side. Keep the left hip grounded and stay for a few more breaths.
- Repeat on the other side.
