Do you suffer from lower back and hip pain?
Back pain can have many causes, and tightness in the hips is one of them. Having tight hips can truly cause a lot of discomfort and can even cause pain in the lower back. This is due to the fact that tight hips cause strain to the muscles in the lower back, increasing pain there and down into the hamstrings as well.
In addition, when the hamstrings are tight, they can pull on the back muscles, causing discomfort.
So, what can you do to open up tight hips? How can yoga help?
The best way to loosen up tight hips is to use deep hip-opening yoga poses. While there are many hip-opening poses out there to choose from, there are specific ones that can really help to stretch out the hips and lower back.
You can even modify these poses to suit your abilities. For example, one pose we recommend for opening up the hips and hamstrings is called head to knee pose. However, we love doing this pose with a strap for support, and this is recommended for anyone who needs a bit more assistance when practicing. In addition, using a strap here promotes proper alignment within the pose to really stretch out the lower back and open up the hips. You can learn more about how to do this pose in the video below.
