Perfect Yoga Push Up

Did you know that there is such a thing as a yoga pushup? That’s right!

A yoga pushup is different from a regular one. Instead of having one swift repetitive movement, yoga pushups are made up of a few different poses linked together with the breath.

A yoga pushup is made up of plank pose and chataranga dandasana. By joining these poses together, one starts in a plank and then slowly lowers down to the ground, bringing either the knees chest and chin to the ground, or keeping the body in a straight line. The arms stay strong here with the elbows tucked in instead of bent out to the sides. When practicing yoga pushups, movements are also linked with the breath.

Yoga pushups are great for strengthening the muscles in the back fo the body, the arms, the shoulders, the chest, and the core. A yoga pushup can be practiced on its own or it can be used to flow from one pose to the next during a vinyasa practice. For example, if you were practicing a sun salutation and needed to move from plank pose to cobra, you could use a yoga pushup to guide you there.
