Pike Push Up Tutorial

What is a pike push up?

If you have not tried a pike push up before, or have never heard of it, then the video above is for you.

A pike pushup is a form of a yoga pushup that is done while in downward facing dog. Pike pushups are a great way to strengthen the muscles in the back, the legs, the shoulders, and the core. This practice is especially helpful for those looking to increase muscle definition and strength in the arms and shoulders.

Starting in downward facing dog and keeping your arms engaged, tuck the elbows in, and begin to bend into them as if doing a regular pushup while maintaining the downward facing dog position. Use the breath here, exhaling as you bend the elbows, and inhaling as you come back up.

Many people do not realize that yoga poses can involve dynamic movement to keep the muscles working. The video above shows just one example of how this can be done, demonstrating how to keep gentle movements incorporated into a yoga practice.
