In this mini morning routine we go over a Runner’s Lunge Twist and how it can benefit you. Wake up your mind and body with this twisting posture. Along with boosting your energy it’s a balancing exercise, opens up your chest and works core & legs. A quick flow for a full body exercise.
Why do we twist in our practice? There’s a handful of benefits like stretching the back, increasing range of motion, boosts ab strength, and help increase balance. Another reason we twist is it’s a good counter to sitting all day with bad posture. Throughout the years sitting will shorten your back muscles. Twisting in yoga is a good way to help stretch out these same muscles and avoid back pain.
Another twisting posture you can easily do in the morning is a seated twist.
- Start by sitting on the ground with your legs long
- Bend your right knee and with that leg step it to the other side of your left leg
- Sit tall and start to twist to your right. With the pressure of your left elbow against the outside of your right knee begin to deepen the twist. Continue to take deep inhales and exhales breathing into the stretch.
- Repeat on the other side
