Do you suffer from lower back pain and/or hip pain?
Having tight hips can truly cause a lot of discomfort and can even cause pain in the lower back. This is due to the fact that tight hips cause strain to the muscles in the lower back, increasing pain there and into the hamstrings as well. So, what can you do to open up tight hips? How can yoga help?
The best way to loosen up tight hips is to use deep hip-opening yoga poses. While there are many poses out there to choose from, there are specific ones that can help to stretch out the hips and lower back. Some poses that are great for opening the hips include pigeon pose, wide-leg forward fold, squat pose, lizard pose, and so much more.
You can even modify these poses to suit your abilities. For example, another pose we recommend is called head to knee pose. This pose can be done with a strap for support, and this is recommended for anyone that needs a bit more assistance when practicing, especially when dealing with very tight hips. In addition, using a strap here promotes proper alignment within the pose to really stretch out the lower back and open up the hips without over-extending or rounding.
